Trichogramma
Trichogramma wasps are very small parasitoids (0,3 -0,5 mm in length), all are egg-parasitoids, e.g. they fullfill the whole development in eggs of butterflies. The adult wasp search and find the eggs of moth-species and place 1 or more of their own eggs in the egg of the moth. The result of that is 1 or more new parasitoids. By this action the moth is killed in the eggstage, and will never be able to make any damage to the crop. The development of Trichogramma from egg to egg is about 3 weeks at 20 degrees, and the new Trichogramma moth coming out of the eggs will search for new moths again. The Trichogramma species will control: Codling moth (Cydia pomonella) and other moths in apple (4-5 species), Plum moth (Cydia funebrana), cabbage noctuids (Mamestra brassicae) in Cabbage, Tomatonoctuids (Lecanobia oleracea) in tomatoes and various species of mothpests in stored products and private houses.
How to use
1. Release of Trichogramma delivered on "Trichocards" (3 types):
- Codling moth : "Trichocard CM" (two species in a mix: T.cacoeciae and T.dendrolimi ): 4-5 releases with a distance of 2 weeks. Start in middle of june, or as soon as the first males are caught in the pheromonetraps. Latest release normally in middle of august. Use 1-2 "Trichocards CM" on small trees, 2-3 cards on big trees.
- Plummoth : "Trichocard P "(only one species: T.cacoeciae ): 2-3 releases with a distance of 2 weeks in between. Start primo juli, or when the first males are caught in the pheromonetraps. Latest release in middle august. 1-2 "Trichocards P" on small trees, 2-3 in bigger trees.
- Moths in Cabbage: "Trichocard C": 2 releases with a distance of 2 weeks. Use 70 "Trichocards C" per Hectare, same as 7 cards/1000 m2, or 1 card /100 m2. cabbage. 1.release in middle of may, and 2. release primo june. Pheromonetraps can be used as determining when to start.
- Moths in stored products: " Trichocard M". ( T.evanescens ): minimum 4 releases every 2 weeks. 1 trichocard per m2.
2. Release of trichogramma capsules: (only against moths in greenhouses): use 2 capsules per 50 m2 (1 net of 100 capsules per 2.500 m2) every week until control. Preventive: 1 capsule per 50 m2). The capsules can be disitibutet by throwing them same time as walking through the greenhouse.
The product
Trichogramma parasitoids are posted in pupae stage (3000 pupae in different development stages) glued on small cardboardcards, " Trichocards" ("Trichocard CM and P"), which easily can be hang on the fruit trees. Trichocard C is placed on the plants in the field. In the first 14 days the parasitoids will hatch continuously, and they will start searching eggs of moths at once (flying or walking). Trichogramma capsules in net of 100 capsules, each contain around 500 Trichogramma-pupae.
